I thought you sprinked the baking soda down to get the desired deepness and then sprinked a little bit of salt crystals to get a sparkling effect.

with white glue?
I don’t know about the white glue. For my snow, I use woodland scenics snow and scenery cement sprayed on and then sprinkle the snow over it. Here is the result:

I wouldn’t recommend using baking soda, it’s used to absorb things, so with it sitting on the shelf it tends to attract dust alot faster… Get the woodland scenics stuff, you’d be better off!
DON’T use anything used in food preparation!!!That means salt, baking powder, baking soda—it’ll look good for about two weeks and then will start to react with your glues, lacquers, etc. I had it happen!
Use the aftermarket railroaders’ supplies–that’s why they made 'em–just stay away from the “micro balloons”; they look lousy…
