Snow Chains

Hey everyone,

I’m considering making a modern armor vehicle (wheeled) in a winter camouflage. I’d like to include snow chains. Does any one have any experience or suggestions on this? I’m building Itari’s LAV in 1/35.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Hmmm. I’ve never attempted anything like that before, but the first thing that popped into my mind would be to use the chain links from a cheap necklace. Or better yet, I’m sure that ship modelers probably use a fine chain for ship and anchor rigging with their models – they may have some suggestions too. Good luck and let us know what you work out.

[:D] hi ,i think verliedin makes a set of tires with snow chains, but im not sure of the size of the tires, sorry.[:D]

At the AMPS show last weekend I saw a lot of tire kits with chains molded on. I would just browse around some resin dealers and see what you can find instead of trying to make your own chains.

I agree. I think that it would be fairly difficult to make your own. But if you were to, find some fine chain either from a cheap necklace, or as AH1Wsnake suggested, try the closest ship modelling supply, they generally have some fine chain that you should be able to use.

Thanks kindly for the help. Not being a shipbuilder I’d never would of thought of going that route. I suspect I’ll see what I can find in the way of scaled down chain and go from there.
Here’s a couple of pics of my most recent vehicle, wheeled, but not winterized and sans any chains. It’s Italeri’s 1/35 234/ 1 Schwerer Panzerspahwagen. Any criticism, especially negative is welcome, I got plenty of room for improvement.
Thanks again!

Craft store are a great place to get scale chain as well; check out Michael’s or some place similar. That is, if you feel like making the tire chains yourself. [:D]

If I were to try I’d do what zokissima suggested. The shippers have all kinds of chain that would work great, some CA or apoxie would probably work well.
