HEY,
I am thinking of getting an airbrush and i was wondering what the difference was between single action and double action? Which is better? Thanks for any help and sorry if this sounds stupid.

Hey Randy.
The double action is generally a much better unit to have. They are a little more tricky to learn but can produce some amazing results once you get the hang of them. I still hold that it depends on your needs too. What kind of painting are you doing with it and what will you do in the future? These are a couple of questions that you have to ask yourself. Personally I have a single action, and have no trouble recreating any of the camo patterns that are on the models I build.
HEY,
I am planning on painting cars and aircraft. I would like to do camo on the aircraft and fade from one color to the next on the cars. What does single and double action mean? Thanks shermanfreak.

Your question doesn’t sound stupid at all. It’s one we’ve all asked.
Single action means when you depress the button on the airbrush you are only controlling the airflow. The paint sprays out simultaneously at a volume that you will have already preset.
With a double action you press downwards on the trigger to start the airflow then backwards to start the paintflow. The further back you pull it, the more volume of paint is released.
The bottom line is, you have more control with a double action.
Yes, it’s a little trickier to get the hang of than a single action but all you have to do is practice with it for a while and it will make sense to you.
Hope this helps!
