Anyone know the difference between a sIG 33, 33/1 and a 33/2?

Thanks Nate.

That does do a nice job (on the page I could view) of spelling out the difference between the Bison and the Grille (which I kinda knew, but at least this confirmed it), but does not clear up the sIG 33 designations. I’m curious what the difference between a plain ol’ sIG 33, slash-1 and a slash-2. I suspect it has to do with modifications for mounting to the respective vehicles, but I’m not sure…

That’s exactly what the /1 and /2 signify. They represent changes to the gun mount in order to fit them into the respective vehicles that carried it in a self-propelled mount (the gun mount for the Grille H is different than that on the Grille M for example). Since nothing at all was changed on the sIG 33 when it was plopped gun-carriage-and-all onto the Pz I to make the Bison, the gun designation was plain vanilla sIG 33 as a result. When it came time to mount it in the Grille, the gun itself was essentially the same but the mount was heavily modified…therefore, in typical German fashion, it received a new disgnation to differentiate the production lines for those weapons since the “normal” sIG was also still being produced. HTH!
