Showtime 100 Photos

Someone asked me for USN F-4 images back when I was still doing the ‘Photo Files’, specifically they were looking for ‘the’ Showtime 100, BuNo.155800. I think it may have been Obiwan that asked…?

Anyhoo, I came across these additional images while going through the file cabinet and thought that whoever it was would like to see them, as well as anyone else who might be interested in Navy Phantoms.

Although not taken on the day, both these images show the jet in the same markings as it wore on May 10th, 1972.

Note the Clifton award on the upper fuselage and the silver MiG-21 silhouette in the black triangle at the forward base of the tail. Both of these details are often overlooked by artists and modelers alike, moreso the MiG silhouette.

The silver MiG-21 was carried by all VF-96 jets in recognition of a kill made by Cunningham and Driscoll during a treetop level chase on January 19th, 1972 but was removed after May 10th, 1972.

Fade to Black…

Blackwolf,
I am constantly amazed by your picture collection. In another post, you had a picture of a Connie and another aircraft that I had never seen before.
Keep up the good work of keepingus informed with your pics. Now about that “contest” that you used to do…

Kurt

You never cease to amaze with your pictures. How many gigs is your hard drive [:)]. Thanks for the post.
