Strange? Not in the least! I like the out of the ordinary aircraft in your collection. Makes it all the more interesting!

Good question! I think this is a 15 year stash. My stash grew quit fast when I was a student. Not because of excess cash but because I spend a lot of time finding the best deals. I bought most of my kits really cheap at vendor tables and airshows (example: MPM 1/48 P-69 for € 5,-). This rapid growth has halted, nowadays it is about 5 in , 5 out a year. My wife would like it if “out” would be a higher number.

5 a year? i got 5 on tuesday for $5.00 US at a club event. 5 planes and i rarely do planes. fortunately my wife is quite supportive. she won’t through anything out before asking if it belongs to a model or can be of use. of course it helps i have a large house so i have a study for my library and displays and a basement for the workshop.
try this. i send her videos of R/C plane events (especially crashes), live steam and garden RR events, big model railroading layouts, and folks restoring fire engines and cars. somehow i casually mention how much cheaper my hobby is and i’m home a lot.
Club events are going to rapidly expand model builder stashes.
Same dealer selling $5 kits at the Butch O’Hare IPMS show Nov 2012 had discounted some to $2 at the Lakes Region IPMS show last weekend.
One guy picked up four, 1970s era Monogram Mig 15 kits for $2 each.

Oh, and I have a box with about 27 kits that are my trade/sell kits. Actually found some that I would not build…unless they sit around long enough and I get attached to them! [whstl]

That said, I’m glad you resurrected this. Holy cow, what a stash. Talk about using up every nook and cranny.

Next time I get “the look” for buying a kit, I’m going to pull up this thread and announce “You’d better knock it off, or I’ll do this”. Yeah, right. …I’m gonna do that. Uh-huh. Sure.
LOL! yeah, I’m sure they are, but hey, it is a great thread and you are correct, there are some awesome stash’s out there! After the last estate sale I did…multiple times! I had to start putting them any place I could. I love estate sales but hope I don’t run into too many more…at least until I can win the lottery!

The low price of kits at swap meets has certainly ballooned my stash during the last two years. While my current stash still isn’t as large as those in this thread, I figure the low price paid means that I can afford to not build all of them in my lifetime.
Well Eagle got me motivated to share my stash with you all. It is indeed too cool of a thread to let die out. There’s 101 kits pictured here that are slated to be built. I have a further 120+ boxed up in my storage bus that are my to be traded/sold. The post it notes you see on most of my kits are a quick reference as to what AM parts I have for each one. Enjoy!
If you have trouble getting anyone to understand your stash, and you rob parts from one kit to use on another model, you can tell them this. I bought half of those kits over there for the detail parts in the box,resin sets cost $20, I paid $5 at a show for each of those kits,look at how much money I saved.
I really do that, I bought an F-89 to get the two Genies for the Phantom test aircraft, bought an F-15 for the ASAT missile on a different company’s F-15 model, buy A-1 models for the HPAR rockets for Panthers and Banshees, different A-1 models to get the SUU-11 gun pods. Each Hasegawa Phantom builds a nice complicated, relaxing build, and in the bargain supplies a “detail set” for some of the cheaper Phantoms on the market. In each case, the parts either aren’t made by the aftermarket,or the plastic upgrades are cheaper than resin parts for the other models.
Of course, between always taking off the shrinkwrap from every model,and having 2-10 parts swapped out of some of them,my collection isn’t worth what other people’s might be worth,but Anne and I didn’t buy the models as an investment, we bought them for me to build, or to get the parts or decals out of.

Hey Sprue. We have one model show a year here in Vermont/NE New York. I always have a great time with the local clubs then (don’t have much time to hit the meetings with the wife’s medical issues), but I did get a letter from them last week! I guess they saw my entry into the FSM article and they invited me to their meetings! Might have to try and go to one before winter!
