What kit would be your last build —or would you build anything at all?
What would you do about all the kits you have stuffed in your closet or hobby room? How about your tools, airbrush, etc?
Personally, I think I would stop building, give everything to my son, enjoy my family, and go plant a tree.

I’m with you, styrene. As much as I love modeling, it’s much too solitary a hobby to spend the last 6 months of life on!
I’d spend the remaining time making the people I love as happy as I can make them!
I would be too sad to concentrate on modeling. I would probably just smoke pot everyday.[:D]
Can’t handle the weed, but give me a 30 pack of Bud Dry / a half gallon of rum every other day and I’ll live out my final days in peace.

I’d probably push myself away from the bench too.
I don’t have a huge backlog of unbuilt kits, gave a lot away to local thrift shops a few years back because looking at them all was too overwhelming anymore. With the few unbuilt or partialy completed kits I’ve got, along with the tools, paints and such, I’d probably give them to the local IPMS chapter to auction off or give away to their membership holders.
After that, I’ll live totally, I’ll take what money I’ve got, live it out, do some travelling and have my ashes scattered where I finally stopped.
For now, I’ve got my health, so I model, amoungst other things.
Have to admit that I too would probably stop building.
Give all the completed to a Museum or to one of the veterans associations.
Give unbuilts to someone who would appreciate them.
I’m with shermanfreak. Walk away and donate what I have to someone who would appreciate it.

I’d give it away to someone who’s just getting started in the hobby and spend my time with family and friends. I’ve had my fun with building, and I can set it aside under those circumstances.
I don’t have many unbuilt kits as for now. So, I just probably finish them. My nephew loves model so I may just give him some of my models and the tools. I’ll leave the rest to my family.
I can’t really say that I will not build anymore kits within that six months. This hobby is part of what I am and it may not become a normal six months without it.

Think it would be nice to give them away to kids who never had models and hope they can get as much fun out of it as I did. I would enjoy spending a few of those last days with them teaching and watching how they “build”.
I might finish the model I’m working on and give the unbuilt kits and supplies to this children’s hospital in my area if they would accept them(probably not [:(] ) . I’d travel to the end and see as many of the museums and battlefields that I studied as I could.

This topic hits home for me. An old family friend of my dads who was heavy into model railroading when I knew him. Well he got cancer and over time he became bedridden and took up plastic modeling. My dad visited him a few times and he must have told him that I build, because when the doctor gave him 6 month he told his wife, unknowing to me, to give me all his unbuilt kits.
When he he passed my dad called me to his house to tell me the news but said he had something for me. He then came out of the back room with 3 big boxes of Fred’s models and suppli[;)]es. I was so touched by this gesture I could of cried.
Most of it was German armor, I build US armor, so I picked the one kit that he had alot of aftermarket parts for (Dragons, Panzer IV Ausf J) and I built in for him and I hope I did him justice because I never had the honor of seeing any of his finished work. If I ever get a good picture of it I’ll post it.
Because of his thoughtfulness when my time comes all my unbuilts will be given to someone that I hope will appreacate them as much as I did Fred’s.

The previous replies have really touched my heart (I’m a softy for this kind of thing anyway).
I have been blessed with two AWESOME children, and to them I would give all my worldy posessions. They both know my love of flight and I know they would do the right thing with my collection, both built, and unbuilt ‘collectors’. Obviously, ‘doing the the right thing’ is at their discretion, but I believe that is what it’s all about. Teach by example and hope they pay attention and learn.
For those of you who choose to leave to the underpriveledged. God bless you all. Your hearts are in the right place, as I believe of everyone else in this forum.

What more worthy group of people to offer up my stash of kits to than the fine folks of this forum?
I would list everything I had one at a time (so you have to be tuned in often). First come / first serve. limit:one kit per member.
I’ll even pay the postage. (What do I care, I’m dyin’ for crying out loud).
But don’t get too excited just yet, guys…I’m feeling pretty good today.
Bah. I’d sell all my kits in a lot to one of you’se hosers [:)] - just do my wife right; I’ve told her my database has all the current bids on eBay for the rare ones … [8D]

You guys are missing an opportunity right under your noses.
Think of it this way.
You have six months to live and you have amassed a large collection of kits(lets say around150).
If your like me you have been modeling for about 10 or so years.
You have learned lots during that time.
Some things friends taught you and some you have learned on your own.
Now you contact your local school district or Boy scout/Girl scout orginization and donate your collection, with one condition.
You are the one to teach those kids how to build a model.
You will share your secrets,your skills,and your modeling pholosyphys to the young.
This way you will be remembered by the children when they grow old and pass on the skill that you taught them to their children and so on.
Think of it ,the father teaching the son to build kits and he will be remembering “you” and what he learned from you.
Your gift could be priceless.
Plus you will inspire the next generation of modelers.
It dosn’t have to be sad, just make the best of it.
