Ships of the British Flag GB.

Scott, that looks like fun.

Hey Scott it looks like you sussed it out. Looks straight and flat and no glue bombs [Y] Is there a bunch of PE on your kit?

Steve,

Funny, I think of “Heart of Oak” when dealing with a British ship.[:D]

Bish Griffin, thanks. I do have a PE set for British WW1 battleships and a fair amount of PE details came with the kit. I was not expecting the deckhouse laminates. That is a concept that was new to me in a standard plastic kit.

I had a good morning at the bench. All my sub-assemblies are done I am to the point of applying a flat black base coat that will help with effect shading when I do my top coats.

I have everything just test fitted at the moment, one sneeze it would look as if the ship hit a mine.

I love that effect! I use it on everything now. I like Tamiya NATO Black myself but I’m not sure I makes a diffrence.

Fantastic looking ship Scott.

That’s looking good Scott. Making fast progress bud. I have finished my deck tractors. Each wheel was a separate part and it was a pita to get them semi straight. Next I will orient everything for the final display.

Oh my [:O], those are tiny Griffin. They look great in the yellow. They should really add to the scene.

Wow Griffin, those wheels look about as much fun as wheels on 1/700 scale aircraft[:D]

I got the decks painted. I made a big mistake. I mixed up the paint, which was acrylic, with enamel thinner and wondered why I was getting fisheyes. Dang paint bottles look identical.

I ended up stripping the deck and now have a few minor issues. This build is moving fast. Its a great kit.

I’ve found that boo boos will sometimes open the door for great looking weathering. The deck looks great.

I’m done with the HMS Invincible. All the items on the deck are not glued down so I can move the stuff around if I like. I just hope my cat doesn’t want to reenact her own Falklands battle scenario. This kit was great. Very few problems. I look forward to seeing all the great ships that will be coming along. Thank you Steve for hosting.

Hi,

That looks great [:D]

Hazzah!

Well now Griffin old man, cracking job mate! [Y] That’s bloody fantastic.
Which picture do you want for the first on the wall?

Thanks guys! I’m happy with the way it came out. I’m also happy to start a new kit in Bish’s Commonwealth GB. Steve the second pic will work. Thank you sir.

Your’re welcome.

Grab and hoist the Jack.

Stunning job there Griffin, she has come out really well and looks even better with all the activity on deck.

[Y] Thank you Bish

Griffin, I congratulate you sir on such a very fine job.

Although I washed all the parts, something in the plastic is causing fisheyes with the enamel. I had this problem on the Prinz Eugen so I did a test spay and sure enough, fish eyes and orange peel. They must use a silicone mold release agent that dish deteregent won’t remove. I will give the plastic a wash in acetone.

Weekend is over and back to work. Here are the current progress pics. I am doing the full hull and have built a base.

More test fitting, painting of the small deck details, and color balancing with washes and powders. I hope to do final assembly over the week.

Finally, I have taken time out from working outside on the house. I will begin my try at ship building (this is only my 2nd attempt at a ship with no masts). I built the large scale Constitution and United States many years ago. So, I am an infant at this ship “thing”.

For this GB I chose to build the 1:350 HMS Roberts, a Monitor class ship. I believe this is kind of what would also be called a pocket battleship, kind of. Here is some of the “stuff” I got for her…

Brass cannons/guns

Wood deck

More P.E. than in the kit (over kill?)

Crew figures

The lot of it

Colors

This is my first attempt to work with P.E. in 1/350 and first super detailing of any ship, wish me luck. I will update this thread as I progress…

P.S.: These are some wonderful builds and subjects in this GB that I am looking forward in seeing finished, great choices everyone!

v/r,

Ben
