I am still painting the Bounty’s hull and getting totally hacked off with it, no matter what I do I get an uneven paint tone/shade all over the place, this I can live with as you have to look at really odd angles to see it, however, as I handle it the matt paint turns silky, so I have to do it again, is there anyway to ‘finalise’ or seal in the paint so this doesn’t happen?
Do I have to apply a clear coat? Bear in mind I don’t have an AB so it’ll have to be brushed or I may get away with an aerosol can.
I have been using latex gloves of late but I can’t feel what I am doing properly. Oh yes, it is enamel paint I am using…

First off, did you thoroughly clean the hull? Prior to any assembly I wash in warm water and dish soap to remove manufacturing oils. When I am ready to paint I clean the part with Testor’s Plastic Prep and let it airdry. There are plenty of overcoats available. Testor’s Dullcote comes in rattle cans.
I think the uneven finish is down to my poor thinning technique.
Will Testors lie okay on enamel? I have also found (fairly locally) Tamiya TS matt clear coat, will this lie okay on enamel?
Testors clear coats (glosscoat and Dullcoat) work fine on top of testors enamel. They have been playing a lot with their formulas and putting out both enamel and lacquer clearcoats in the last few years. Techniques are different and drying times vary widely, but I use Testors enamels almost exclusively and have never had a problem using any of their clearcoats over enamel as far as compatibility or adhesion.
Can’t seem to find Testors over here (UK), I’ll give the Tamiya a shot…
