Ship Railings: Vertical Bars

Anyone know if there is available in 1/700 PE ship railings with vertical bars?

I had primed myself to start building a civilian ship when I got stopped cold on my tracks. I discovered that the ferry I was going build had vertical bar railings.

There is a lot of railing for 1/700. in that scale its almost impossible to see, I did a quick google search, here is the link

Not exactly sure what you mean by vertical bars. Do you mean with the stanchions vertical and horizontal rails? This is the most common. There are also pe railings for stairways that are inclined at an angle.

I think he means like a picket fence, upright bars attached to top and bottom runner rails.

Not aware of any in 1 700 scale. You might find PE fencing in the popular railroad scales

There are square open grid PE sheets around. They are some amount of work, a lot of attachment points to cut and nubs to file. High rate of loss too.

Ed’s right. I was looking for something that looks like this:

GM,

Thanks, Ill look around. I was also thinking of 1/350 ladders as an alternative. I know that using that, too, may have a high rate of loss.

Seriously Allan. That’s a tall order At any scale, let alone 1/700

Ouch. If you can’not find something expressly made for the purpose (which I doubt exists) perhaps something like PE fences or ladders can be adapted? It doesn’t have to be made for ships, really. As long as it is vertical-bar and the right height (or width, depending!) it should be effective.

I just checked Tom’s Model Works. They have generic railings in 1:700, both three bar (rail) and two bar.

I figure Ill try ordering some 1//350 PE hanging ladders in the hopes some of them will be wide/tall enough to stand as 1/700 railings.

Might be a good time to look into the DIY photoetch. you’d need to be bale to represent the rails with precise linework, but, the rest is fairly simple.

Hi ;

How about this ? Try to find Wrought iron fencing in the size you need .I think " N " Scale might work , if not " Z " scale by KIBRI .

Captnmac has a good idea. I needed to have 18 sets of rotors for helicopters and only 4 to a set. It would have cost nearly $200.00 for enough PE sets to do it. The PE making stuff cost me about $150.00 including extra film and sheets. A bit of a learning curve doing the artwork and PRESTO - I had 20 sets of rotors. AND, the ability to make them in any scale I wanted by simply resizing the artwork. I’ve used it for other items and occasionally made specialty stuff for others. EJ

Im probably not ready to dabble with making my own PE yet. I basically at zero when it comes to that. I have ordered 1/350 hanging ladders to see if that would work. Ill also start looking around for them fences as Tanker pointed out. If all fails, Ill start studying photo etching. :slight_smile:

You should;

Maybe look in a KIBRI brand catalogue - H.O. and N. scale model railroad wrought iron fencing . I am sure they Will have something that will work . T.B.
