After looking at numerous pics online I am stumped. On the top deck of the Shiden Kai, beneath the rear fixed portion of the canopy, should that area be painted the topside green, the cockpit interior color, or black? After looking at lots of pics online of both restored and unrestored aircraft, no photos show this area clear enough to give an answer. Does anyone here have that answer?
Hi **Carlos…**I’ve been doing some research for IJN floatplanes and have found that the areas you speak of are of the usual interior color.
Finding that exact interior color is somewhat problematic! [%-)]
Carlos. A few years ago I did the Hasegawa Shiden-Kai. I painted that area the interior color. I used aotake. Don’t know if its totally correct but it looks good.
All I’ve ever used in that area of Japanese aircraft is the brown primer color they used under the rest of the exterior paint, ot the exterior paint color itself… I figured that they did it the same way I did, painted the aircraft, then intalled the canopy…
Heck, sometimes the whole aircraft only got a coat of primer before it was in combat…
