I’ve come to the conclusion that one of these days I’ll have to build a 1/16 Full Option Sherman, and when I do, I’d like to build either the Easy Eight or the Firefly variant. I’m looking for good websites, books or other models depicting these vehicles so I can see color schemes, markings, gear stowage, etc… I’ve done German armor all this time, so I’m fairly ingnorant about the venerable Sherman (cough, Tiger bait!, cough!) Thank you for your help and insight.
I think the best references are photos taken by one’s self. Now’s a good time to go to museums and MV shows to start photo-ing. Lots of Easy Eights out there to get details off of! Fireflies… you’ll have to talk to Robert!
Thanks so far fellas. I can get one for $419 when the time is right. (Still working on the Stug!) I just got worried here recently cause’ someone thought that Tamiya was going to stop production of the old Shermie. I’ve run my Tiger I all over the battlefield and had no problems, but everyone in my tank club swears by Tamiya’s Sherman for reliability and toughness. Plus, the Sherman is serious fun to drive! I appreciate your help.
Okie - from what I’ve seen of the Tamiya 1/16 line of sherman (all 1 of them). You’re pretty limited on your selection.
They make an M4 105 HVSS version. Now not knowing what’s out there for AM fopr these R/C beasts kind of limits me a bit.
If you want a Firefly … major changes !!! Suspension, tracks, main gun, turret modifications galore.
As far as Easy-8 versions (HVSS), you can go with the kit version 105. As far as I know, you can’t upgrade it to a 76mm without major changes again and there is a debate as to whether or not they even existed.
Colour schemes are easy … fire up the airbrush and get the O.D. ready. That’s about it for the 105 unless you want to add whitewash.
It’s a blast to watch the little bogies dance around, it turns on a dime, responds well. Upgrade the bearings when you get it…But there’s no mistaking it…it…it…it’s still a Sherman.
Hey guys I wanted you to know that Elite Armor has released a M4A3E8 ‘Easy Eight’ upgrade kit for the 1/16 Tamiya 105! [:D] It includes a new turret, mantle, engine deck, photoetch, metal barrel and decals to do 5 Korean War versions. All for $125.00 (includes shipping) [:D]
