Picked up Tamiya’s M4A3 (#352500) and want to get a PE set for it. Anyone know which set is better, Aber or Eduard? I’ve got some Eduard & Lion Roar sets for other kits & both are nice, but haven’t bought an Aber set. Thanks!
I don’t really know why, but I prefer Eduard. I’ve got some Aber and I like them, but Eduard is usually my first choice, Again, I don’t have a good reason for that…

I built that kit about 2 years ago (as Caballero) using the Eduard set and found it to be quite good. To be honest, the choice was influenced more by price than anything else. The kit itself required several “improvements”, so the PE set was only one piece of the puzzle.
Eduard PE is high school level, Aber PE is graduate level. Eduard has a tendency to try to replicate everything they can in PE, even if the kit plastic is better. You rarely use 3/4 of the set. The parts are very stiff and flat.
Aber does very comprehensive sets that normally include even workable hinges. Very fine detailing often with details on both sides of the fret. It is thinner and more fragile. Definitely not the type PE you buy if you are just starting out with etched metal.
I dont mean to hijack the thread, but since we’re on the subjet of different PE sets for beginners, how do you guys rank up Voyager sutff and Verlinden stuff and even the stuff DML includes in its real nice kits?.. I got the Voyager set for the 1/48 Tiger I for my first PE set and I’m chugging right thru it but it’s certaily a tedious process at first. I’ve also got the DML Premium Elefant which has some big PE parts and then I got the VP Interior set, which has alot of resin and a big fret of much stiffer feeling PE…
Current trends are to avoid Verlinden PE.
Voyager makes some nice stuff that also often includes other nice extras.
Thanks for the tips all! Forgot about Voyager, but they don’t seem to have any Sherman PE. What about Royal Model? They have a Sherman set but its pretty pricey. Over twice that of Eduard. But it might include some resin parts?
Royal Model and Aber are both much better than Eduard. But Eduard is very easy to use, and Aber gives me some serious headaches.
Rob hit it pretty well I think. Though I will buy Eduard to save some bucks.I like to have extra PE because it comes in handy for “Gizmology” later!!
Thanks for all of your input guys! I think I’ll give Aber a try since I’ve already got some Eduard sets to learn from. I just hope I can handle the headaches![(-D]
