Battlephile, normally the first number is the parent unit such as division or Corp. In this case the 2 can be the division or the battalion, but 67th armor was in 2nd armored division during most of WWII so it most likely stands for 2nd Armored Division, 67th Armored Regiment. The “delta” or triangle it the US symbol for Armored.
Dear Spamicus,
Thank you very much for your kind explaination. I watched the series “Band of Brothers” on Carentan Chapter when “2nd Armored Division, 67th Armored Regiment” was rescued Easy Co. I hope to build the diorama on that scene.
Thank you again
The bumper number system is still in use.
For instance, 1(triangle) 1(triangle)35 is 1st Armored Division, 1st Bn, 35th Armored Regiment, or 1(triangle)1F94 is 1st Armored division, 1stBn, 94th Field Artillery, Infantry is denoted by an I vice the F.
Hello there,
Thanks ackman
Easy on that “rescued” part. Might tick off some Screamin’ Eagles.
