I have heard that Sheperd Paine did a dio on a B-29.I have both editions of his book and have seen several of his dioramas in fsm but I have never seen this one.Does anyone know where I could find a pic of this dio.I think it was also one of the booklets that monogram put with the kits several years ago.I did a search on Sheperd paine but came up with nothing.
Any help would be great,thanks.

Here’s a scan of the first page of the slinger that was included in the Monogram B-29 kit:
If you’d like me to scan the rest of it just give a hollar…

Well, the image is rather large and the enlarge feature isn’t working, so here’s a direct link…

I think that Diaroma is in the New England Air Museum. I could be wrong though.
Thanks Blackwolf.I,ve been looking for that for years.I would love to see the whole thing if you don’t mind scanning it.I have the one for the B-17 if you want to trade.I’m a major B-29 fan and collect pretty much anything B-29 related.I even bought a small generator that is supposedly out of a 29 but I haven’t confirmed that yet.I really must make the trip to Texas to see FIFI in flight.Wow,what a road trip.Just think of all the hobby shops between here and there.
I remember the picture, in fact I still have the brochure but doesn’t reference the builder anywhere. It looks really nice, but doesn’t feel like Shep’s work unless it was set up in a hurry for a deadline (which in a bio I read, he stated that they changed a lot of things at the last second and he was forced to cookie cut a number of dioramas). However, It’s too symetric for his style. He tends to make details like the jeep front wheels turned and showing weight, or the guy’s leaning on something so they don’t look so ridgid. Sorry for sounding too criticle, but Shep Pain does bring out the “little” less obvious things that make his dioramas so great.

I read the article in gsm 2001 on Sheperd Paine. In it he describes how he had some really short deadlines for some and long waits for others. In the article,it lists the B-29 dio as one of his.I do admit that this one doesn’t have his usuall flash but I refer you to his C-47 dio.It doesn’t have as much flash as say,the B-24 dio but it is still his.As far as Sheperds little details,If you look close, you’ll notice that he has turned the front wheels of the B-29 and there is a guy working in the bomb bay with a light.I think that Sheperds signature is on this one,it’s just not in bold letters.Either way,it’s a great dio.I’m just going by what I’ve read and my opinion. In any case,Kudos to the builder and all hail the god of dioramas,Sheperd Paine.
Here’s the rest, sorry for taking so long…
Here’s the URL’s to the full size images in case the enlarge feature isn’t working:

I totally agree, Scott. I adore Paine’s work. Even my friend’s, nonbuilder’s, know the name Paine. They hear it and run before I can corner them!!
Shep Paine is great. Thanks for posting the pictures.

It was his stuff in the old monogram kits that got me to start modelling. I’ll always love his work
He was my inspiration too.His book got me doing dios.Cheers! John.
Hey mkee (or anyone else interested), I have several walkaround pix of the B29 at Seattle’s Museum of Flight and also some interior pics as well if you want me to email them to ya. Let me know.
Great stuff! Thanks for posting that.
