She Warrior from verlinden

My first attempt at a figure bust and horrible paint job. I have been wanting to give it a try and I feel it came out horrible. Very frustrated, I figured a female warrior would have been in the sun alot. so I attempted to paint it a darker tan and it came out pretty bad. Not much shading and mono tone color. Any body have any suggestions? I dont want to give up yet…

Looks like you have basically primed the figure. To get a tanned flesh color, I use Vallejo beige red and dark flesh tone in a 1:1 ratio. Adjusting the ratio gives me my highlights and shadows. For stronger highlights, I’ll add light flesh and/or sunny skintone to the base color. Being a female, you might want to add just a touch of vermillion to the mix for the cheeks and a bit more for the lips. If you’re not using the pasty, you could paint that area darker brown to pink. Of couyrse, you’ll want to do some research for the correct color. [:-^]

Just my opinion, but I like to use one part Tamiya acrylics Desert Yellow to eight parts Tamiya White for a basecoat. That is usually followed by oils. Mark Bannerman’s method to be exact.
