OK, there’s not much to show here. The title for this came into my head as I was finishing these. Compulsion FORCED me to do it !
These are the RATO “eggs” for my Hasegawa Ar 234B. The parachute straps are from the Eduard PE set. When attached to the aircraft’s wings, I will add the static line that opens the chute when they’re jettisoned.
The units are painted with a few shades of Alcad, and washed with a mixture of RLM 66 and flat black. They were also drybrushed with MM Chrome silver. The decals are from Eagle Strike. The chute color is mixed fromb MM white and wood, and washed with a lightened dark earth. Drybrushing the chute was done with a mix of MM wood and titanium white oil paint.
By the way, I’m getting ready to get a camera, and was wondering what megapixels do yo use? I was looking a 5. Any insight on camera’s would be mighty helpful.
well lets crack them suckers and have breakfast boys!!!LOL never heard of RATO’s before…ya learn something everyday. nice job Pix, you really have fallen hard for Alclad eh? later.[:)]
willuride - I use a Canon Power Shot G5, with 5 megapixels of resolution. There are two customizable White Balances, and the color rendered is true. It also shhots in the RAW mode, which transfers the data from the camera’s CCD (which transduces light to digits) direct to the file without compression. The camera also has full manual controls. I LOVE this camera !
Chris - I haven’t used anything else for metallics for the past year. Nothing else looks as much like metal as Alcad, to my eyes.
Butz - I don’t know if you’ve seen the cockpit or airframe pics, so here they are.
I have since painted the RLM 76 and 82. Tomorrow I’ll be painting the RLM 81. The nose of the canopy cracked, and I’ve replaced it with a vac.
Pix,
Your “eggs” certainly good at this point. What is the incubation period and what do they look like after they hatch? Excellent work on the Arado. [alien]
pingtang - the cockpit is mostly from the kit. I used parts from a Verlinden set (bombsight, flare pistol, box behind pilot’s left shoulder), and an Eduard photoetch set (instruments, rudder pedals, levers, box behind pilot’s right shoulder). I also added a couple scratchbuilt boxes, and some wiring and hoses. I will also be using a Squadron vac canopy. The seat is white metal from a Trimaster Me 262, with injected arms and cushions. I think that’s everything ! The kit cockpit is quite good, but since it’s so visible (and I’m opening the hatch) I wanted to add everything that I can see in the reference pics I have.
