I am willing to set up a Web-Ring for Forum members that are interested.
Naturally the Web-Ring will be separate from FSM, but I was thinking of restricting it to member of this community.
Nearly got all the pre-work done and we could start adding Web-sites to the ring very soon.
Before that I got a few problems:
1.) What shall I call the Web-Ring?
2.) Need to create a small Logo with the Web-Ring name.
3.) Decide on Categories for the “All members” list, was thinking of something similar to the forums on here.
How would Forum members go about adding their site to the ring:
1.) Fill in a “join” form. and wait for a reply from me.
2.) Add a little bit of html code to their site after they got the approval.
Note:
No CGI or similar capabilites are neede, it will run solely on Javascript.
It is something easy and at the same time complex, it is a method of linking/grouping related web-sites together.
Each member site features a small panel from which you can navigate to other sites within the ring, if you keep clicking the “next” button it will take you through all the sites in the ring.
The last(newest) site being linked to the original(oldest) site and thus completing the ring.
The original site usually hosts a small database with all the information of the members sites in the ring and in which sequence they are linked.
No not at all, simply a way to navigate between web-sites.
Example(hypothetical):
You go to Swanny’s web-site and see the panel for the Web-Ring, you click on the “next” link and it will take you to my web-site, click “next” and it will take you to Dwights Web-site. Click “prev” and it goes backwards, click random and get surprised.
The Panel also gives acces to lists of ALL the sites in the ring, either grouped or in alphabetical order.
Many likeminded people link their web-sites like this as it allows to find web-sites quickly and can be extended or shrunk as members come in or drop out.
Can’t remember lets say J-Hulks site, find it via the Web-Ring quickly.
