Series 3, Tie Breaker Question for PaulToz and Brain44 only. Thur 01 / 11 / 07

This designer had been concentrating on aircraft engines until the 1950,s when he decided to re-enter the aircraft manufacturing industry. His first design, a private venture, was originally intended as an anti-tank aircraft with the prototype being constructed in less than six months. This two seat, ground support aircraft, was a simple light design, with a central nacelle, a high set tailplane and a fixed spatted landing gear. The aircraft also had an enclosed gunners / observers position in the nose and a high mounted open cockpit. Intended to operate from unprepared strips, it had short takeoff and landing characteristics and was powered by a single reciprocating engine. The Air Force and Army of another country evaluated the design, and found it not suitable for it,s tasks. The design was transformed into an Army co-operation and light ground attack aircraft. It was also tested in another country as a counter insurgency aircraft. This aircraft carried four fixed 7.5mm machine guns and a maximum of 8 wire guided missles or alternating ordinance. Name this aircraft. You guys know the format so no need to post it. Answer will post on Saturday 01 / 13 / 07 at 1200 hrs E.S.T or sooner if you both have the correct answer or one answers correctly to break the tie.
