I know many of us like to use Testors Model Master “black chrome” as a semi-gloss black for frames and other under-the-car parts. I found a Krylon spray can of “satin black” that matches the black chrome very closely. I can spray frames and such while still on the sprue, then touch of the attachment point area with a daub of brushed on black chrome.
I’m finding a lot of my bottled paints don’t age well, and most of my semi-gloss black is more of a gloss black a short time after I initially-open the bottle. I’m really thinking of using more automotive spray paints. I usually have a pretty good supply of it around anyway.

Semi-gloss and flat paints do seem to need more shaking or agitation than gloss paints- maybe the pigment size is larger- don’t know. I just know that flats and semi-gloss needs to be very well stirred, especially if it has been sitting unagitated for a while.
I thought that, too, but after stirring with a stick until the ‘wad-of-settled-paint’ disappeared, then shake the bottle, some of it is still more glossy than I expect. I figured it just aged. Our environment here is very humid, and it seems to get to the paint quicker. Dunno.
