I know everyone is pinning for a new kit of all the cool 70’s and 80’s sci-fi stuff, but what about an MST3K satellite of love? In 1/350 scale with figures! Or some figures from the movie “Heavy Metal”. - a real corvette spaceship anyone? Hey if they made the spinner from “Blade Runner”. Anything is possible
The full size Galileo shuttlecraft built by AMT was just in the news, having been completely restored and is now on display at a NASA facility in Texas.
That got me to wonder, we all know the AMT model kit version is riff with inaccuracies, the rear being the most egregious.
Has ANYONE made an ACCURATE Galileo shuttle actually based on the actual prop ???
Ahhhh, thanks for the correction- I forgot about the AMT connection with the shuttlecraft. A friend of mine told me Polar Lights is doing a new more accurate version of the shuttle but I couldn’t find anything on a web search.
There was a resin kit of Joel and the bots years ago, the price is probably sky high by now. Don’t recall any kit of ‘The Satellite of Love’ though- it would make a pretty darn cool model.
The billboard dirigibles, and the restaurant “junk” from Blade Runner would be cool.
Hmm, a wealth of cool potential kits from “Fifth Element”–hover cabs & PD cars, Flostin Paradise, etc.
Resin Ranger made one waaayyy back when. www.starshipmodeler.com/…/pre_rr_gal.htm
The problem with the accuracy issue is that the interior would not fit inside the exterior. The shuttle interior was a separate set for filming and is much larger than the actual shuttle prop.
There was once a resin replacement rear hull, maybe by SMT Models? to correct the AMT kit.
Polar lights IS doing an all new shuttle craft kit. It should be out in 2014.
They are trying to make it as accurate as possible, I think it will be a hybrid of the filming mockup and
the SPX model. As of now I don’t think they have any plans for an interior but I could be wrong.
The old AMT shuttle kit came out after the show was off the air, 1974 I think.
The AMT/Desilu deal was AMT got the license to sell the USS Enterprise kit in exchange for building
the Shuttle exterior filming mockup. They then got the license for the Klingon battle cruiser in exchange for building the 2 filming models of it.
I assume that all the kits after those were cash deals, Except for the Spock/Snakes kit. That one has an
interesting history behind it also.
I’d like to see…
TIE Bomber-Star Wars
USS Discovery-2001/2010
Leonov-2010
Sulaco-Aliens
Oh Heavy Metal and The Fifth Element (one could argue the latter is a live action rehash of the first) are full of Sci Fi models I would love to build- Harry Canyon’s or Corbin Dallas’s Taxi’s… The Mengaloid fighters… Edsel and Zeke’s spaceship… the Earth to Floston Paradise transport…
The helicopter and drones from’Oblivion’ would make some excellant sci-fi kits!
Many of the kits listed in this thread are or soon will be available, or re-released. I saw the Jetson’s car in the list. It’s soon to be re-re-released, as well as several different LEM kits and other space craft, real or imagined. Yeah, there are obviously some kits that haven’t made it yet, the Red Dwarf first series Bug comes to mind, as well as Spaceman Spiff and his ‘space car’. I saw one Jimmy Flintstone resin kit of Spaceman Spiff, but that kit is long out of production. I remain optimistic, though, and keep checking my favorite TV- and Science-fiction web store here:
One cool thing Steve listed on his 'blog, but doesn’t have on his site was the LEM training vehicle. It’s 1/48 scale, IIRC, and it’s a PE and resin kit. I have one on order. It looks like it’ll take some detailing work to make it real nice, but should be a great start.

I’ve always wanted them to make the Buck Rogers/Flash Gordon models. Along with Capt. Proton’s ship from Star Trek Voyager
Also the Vulture from the short lived tv show Salvage 1
Here’s another forgotten one - any one of the ST-TNG shuttles.
They did do the Runabout, about the only shuttle in TNG that had an episode almost entirely on a shuttle trip. DS9 used it extensively and despite the name, it was really just a shuttle.
wouldn’t those cars be in the auto section?
I just noticed on Ebay the two large ships from Stargate, Promethius and I cant remember the other ones name

I want to build ALL the aircraft from “Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow” I mean come on, a WWII era flying Aircraft Carrier, sleek looking amphibious planes and an amphibious P-40. So cool…
Also, the movie “Iron Sky” has some modeling potential.
Iron Sky is absolutely hilarious! That’s the one with the n**** living on a giant swastika-shaped moon base, right?
Prometheus and Daedalus - for anime fans, coincidentally the names of the “ship arms” of Macross’s TV-version SDF-1. Prometheus was an aircraft carrier and Daedalus was an amphibious landing ship. [:)]
I have the runabout, it’s waiting for a time when I have the ability and inclination to add at least a partial interior, and perhaps some basic lighting to it.
