Secret Santa- WWII Aviation GB

I agree with Bud and Jon, I would be most appreciative of anything, and I love surprises (well, most surprises!) [:I] Anyhoo…if someone has a strong aversion to a particular facet of WWII, they could certainly let Jon know and when he makes the Santa assignments, he could pass that info along…
Just my [2c] [2c] (adjusted for inflation)!

Brian [C):-)]

that’s a good idea. also the santa’s idea. i’ll be considering this, but i have to ask my parents

Thanks for adding me Jon. This is a fantastic idea. Kudos to you!!! When should we start posting our likes/dislikes? I cna’t wait to find out who my person is!!! P.S. You might want to have a deadline for people to sign up… like Oct. 30th or something…

Whoops guess I should have read the rules a little better!!!

Well, that was sort of my intent…if anyone has a really strong feeling towards Axis or Allied aircraft, that was it… although being surprised is also a really good thing as well.

I would be totally 100% happy with anything, even something I already had [:)]

OK, you guys convinced me: I’M IN!. You proposed solutions that all sound reasonable.

As for the wish list I’d say we keep it optional, but consider this we all wrote letters to Santa with our wishes! [(-D]

LOL… ROTFL!

[:D]

I’m with Clueless! Actually, it’s fun in a way thinking of a kit to get for Mr.A.Nonymous. Wondering, do I use one of my (way too large) stash, or do I buy a fresh one. WWII 1/48? Well, I sold my Tamiya Lancaster last week, so, no, not that (and, maybe a bit too big). Seriously, imposing a £10-£12 limit makes things more interesting. I could probably just about squeeze a Tamiya Spitfire or something, but that might push me over the ‘limit’. Something from Airfix? Maybe, but not much left. I want something that any modeller can build, and so, no raised panel lines (a pet hate of mine). Italeri do some lovely stuff, that’s cheap, but with them it’s a bit hit and miss as to quality. Revell? Could be, but again, hit and miss. Obviously, no dodgy model from some dodgy knock off, and no Minicraft. Eduard can be nice, although I’ve heard that their Tempest is a bit of a dog. Academy is good, but getting pricey. Hasagawa are similiar to Tamiya. There are other, but that’s who come to mind. So, now, the great challenge…what do I get? Something usual, like a Spitfire? Something unusual like a Uhu? Maybe even an early jet, like the Meteor? A rare beast, like say, a Hampden? Ah, choices, choices! It’s fun this!

I think the 10 to 20 Dollars is a base. IF you have to go over a little it’s ok and if it’s under it’s ok too.

As for me I am NOT going to try to get a plane that everone has. I like diffrent things and that’s what I hope I will find to give to someone… maybe LOL, with me you Never know what you will get LOL

Bud

How about this:

We’ll keep it random- just sticking to the guidelines outlined in the first post. However, if you have a particular aversion to a type of aircraft- like “No Axis aircraft because where I live I couldn’t have a kit that had swastika decals”, certainly let me know about that so I can pass it on. It doesn’t have to be that dramatic, but you get my point.

I think the key will be making sure this is as fun a process for the Santa part as the recipient part. I’ve already been to the LHS, trying to pick out a kit that would really seem neat for someone. That’s what I think everyone will really get a kick out of- shopping for a kit for their forum buddy.

So if there is a particular aversion based on cultural, religious or other type things, we would all want to honor that. But I think the fun will be in the surprise aspect of it.

One other note- someone PM’d me and asked if I was going to participate. Yes! [;)] Of course, it won’t be a surprise to me, but I thought it might be good to explain how I’m going to match Santa’s with recipients.

I’m basically making a spreadsheet of names. Once the sign-up time has passed, I’ll open the final spreadsheet, copy the list of names, roll 2 dice, and offset the list by by that number. I know, sounds silly, but it’ll be random.

In other words, if there are 20 participants, I’ll roll the dice. Say the number is 7. I’ll paste the copy in the row to the right of the master list, 7 spaces down, then move the bottom 7 to fill the empty spaces. So it’ll be random. (Does that make sense? [%-)])

Now- if anyone is not comfortable with such a method, please let me know. I’m honestly more excited about seeing the interaction with others, and giving a gift to one of my forum friends, than I am about getting one.

Anyway- thanks so much to everyone for participating, for the ideas, and for the fun spirit!

I think that’s great- good for you for including your parents in the decision. Please feel free to have them email me directly, if they’d like, at jonbius@gmail.com. I’ll be glad to answer any questions they have.

We’d love to have you participate!

Hey! Now that i made up my mind I’d like to see my name on the partecipants list in the first post!
[(-D]

Got it! Sorry about that! Welcome aboard!

I am with you jwb on what ever you think is good.

Bud

Sounds like a great plan for drawing names. I’m already looking at kits trying to find one that’s a little “out of the ordinary”…my fiancee’s going with me to try to limit my spending… TRY being the operative word… “No honey, I really DO have 6 Secret Santa Group Builds… aircraft, armor, ships, cars, motorcycles and figures…” [;)]

He is alittle diffrent maybe alot diffrent or is it just hes wierd.[:D][:P]

6 ? I told my wife 9 [:P]

And Rob I would lean on the WEIRD more, then diffrent…

Bud

Now that’s funny…

That’ll be the next GB- “Smoke screen to buy kits GB”. LOL

“Seriously honey, these are for kit-deprived children. You don’t hate children, do you? Of course not! Now be a dear and get me another shopping cart.”
