Hey Guys, this is my SSGB plane. Smokingguns3 sent it to me two Christmases ago, and I just got around to finishing it. It’s the Tamiya 1/48 Bf-109 E4. I used pretty much everything that came in the box. After I stepped on the windsheild, someone here on the forum (oh dear I forget! So sorry!) was gracious enough to send me a vac canopy. I used Model Master acrylics for the exterior. From what I could gather, the camo was supposed to be RLM 02/71 over 65. Questions or comments welcome!
ROB! How are ya, buddy? Kit was good, not too many parts, nothing too tiny. The only rough part was the engine cowling fit. It requred some sanding and putty. Other than that, this kit is solid! Thanks so much, it really was fun (and drawn out lol). Mostly, college got in the way. Also, I had to wait for the right airbrush to do my first German mottle. But it was a good kit. You ought to build one!
Max- That is one beautiful 109! The mottle looks excellent, as well as the overall “look”. What method did you use to mask the spinner? It turned out beautifully. Well done, this one was definately worth the wait.
Thanks again everyone! I guess German mottle isn’t as hard as I made it out to be!
Mucker, I agree, the yellow nosed 109’s just look so darn cool. I couldn’t resist!
Frank, to mask the spinner, I took a strip of Frog tape and placed it front-to-back to make the demarcation on the back part of the spinner. Then, to get the round part masked, I cut the tape into very thin strips. I just placed them side by side along the curve, and that gave me a very nice line. I used the same technique on my Meteor
That’s a beauty Max. And don’t worry about SS1 finished only now. It will propbaly be about that long b4 I get to the SS2 build. Again… great job on the 109.
Great job, Max! I do have one question, I was wondering how you did the turnbuckles on the antenna wires. I want to start adding them to my own planes, but dont know how its done.
