We want to have a GB where we can get as many builders from across the forums to join in and build a kit they were gifted by their Secret Santa.
The premise is you decide on a basic kind of kit, for instance someone may state 1/35 German armour, and another may say 1/48 US fighter plane, or 1/144 civilian airliner, or perhaps 1/35 attack helo, you get the idea. Keep the kit idea you desire to a type and scale, but not a particular kit. That way you just don’t know what you’ll get.
Secret Santas will be set up and you’ll send your kit that you picked out to the recipient who will not know you sent it. We all open the kits on Xmas and that’s when the build begins and it lasts about 9 months or so.
It’s a way to celebrate the season AND it’s a way for more of us to get to know members we might not otherwise meet. It’s a great way to expand on our freindships and add more new builders to areas they may not have persued otherwise.
It’ll be really fun and we want everyone to join in.
PM ajd3530 or myself with your scale and type of kit you would like to see and we’ll add you to the list. Once we get near Thanksgiving we’ll assign all the Santas and everyone has time to locate something that fits the bill. No one should spend more that $15-30 on a kit. Keep it simple, it’s for fun.
Thursday November 25th (Thanksgiving): Names will be drawn and assignments will be given out. This way people can get there shopping done on black friday if thats their thing.
Friday December 11th: This is the date that ask you to have you gift mailed by. That gives USPS time to screw the pooch and get it figured back out.
This sounds like fun. So let me get this straight. I PM you with say, 1/72 biplane (do I get that specific?) or 1/72 armor, you guys put it in the “hat” mix it up and them PM me back with a kit to purchase and send to someone else?
I obviously haven’t read the old rules yet but going there now.
Just to be clear, you pick the rough catagory you want, someone else picks the kit and sends it to you. And you do the same based on the rough idea of another builder. Hope that makes sense.
Its a shame that since the less than stelar reconfiguration, we can no longer loock back on posts made by others. Look back through their posts and see if there is a kit or subject they are real fond of/always wanted but never got for themselves. That would come in real handy in picking just the right gift for your giftee.
