second coat (acrylic) paint problem

I’m painting my big Dragon Railway Gun and have painted the large barrel with ta first coat of Tamiya’s gray acrylic. I thinned it with a lacquer thinner and it looks great…but it needs, of course, a second coat…Now, can just put on a second coat of gray directly after the first coat properly dries, or should I follow the first coat with either a clear gloss or clear flat, and THEN spary a second coat? Any help would be appreciated as always…

if you spraying it out, you don’t need to do anything to the first coat. If you a brush painting, the problem is that the 2nd coat may dissolve the 1st coat if you go over it too much.

Thanks for the prompt reply, Waik—I was hoping that would be the answer as I am anxious to get going on the paint job again…I checked out your photos…good stuff…I just got a digital camera for Christmas and now I, too, hope to get better clarity and closer closeups of my stuff…
