Searchin out my Great Uncle/ret. AF pilot

This is a manhunt I’m on. My Great Uncle was a fighter pilot in the Korean and Vietnam War. Supposedly he was an ace but I searched for aces in both conflicts and his name was not listed. I’m guessing the information I just mentioned has been distorted because of the telephone game. Is there somewhere I can search out to see what exactly he flew? Or come up with anything about retired Air Force pilots? His name was Col. Walter J. Brug.

Thanks ya’ll,

Justin

Hi–

I looked through the USAF historical research agency–they have compiled a list of all USAF aerial kills–and did not find your uncle’s name anywhere in there. I did find his name on the USAF memorial, but didnt find any details, just “Col. Walter J. Brug Jr.”. Sorry that I could not find any details for you.

Thanks to both of you.

F-8, that’s all I could fnd on him too.

jmc, I’ll check that out tomorrow!

The AF historical records at Maxwell AFB is what I searched for him and didnt find any mention.

Justin,

My father was Walter Brug. He was not an Ace, but flew over 100 missions over North Vietnam from 1966 to 1967. Send me an email so we can communicate. Are you Durwood’s son?

Regards,

Eric
