Doing an Eduard FW190 A-5. This happens to be one of Phil’s Foley’s great video builds on Promodeller. (Five or six hours a shot: - a really effective learning tool. Still can’t figure out how Foley can avoid getting his fingers covered with paint when he airbrushes.) I’ve watched several and thought I’d learn to remove seams: seams are bad. So you weld the seam and then carefully sand the seam into oblivion and recreate any lines lost. Here’s the problem. On the upper fuselage of FW there’s a seam going from the rear of the cockpit to the top of the tail - nothing new there. Naturally I was going to remove it. (Haven’t seen the entire video, but it sure looks like Phil removed it from the “reveal” photos.) But, on the instructions it very clearly shows that the seam is supposed to be there. So I figure, maybe that’s to make the instructions more clear. Not so simple. Eduard provides really neat full color paint schemes - I’ve only got one for my weekender, but Eduard is wise and smart enough to allow people to download instructions from their site, so I have the Profipack version that has five schemes. Every one clearly shows a seam from the cockpit to the top of the tail. No seam underneath on either the instructions or the paint schemes. (Good because that’s gone. Got a flexi-file: very sweet for fuselage work.) As it stands, I’m going to leave the seam alone. Any chance of some good modeler coming into the my back room and saying “The FW is OK, but why did you screw up the seam?” Or is it possible that I’ve screwed up again and that seams are part of building aircraft: never thought of folk gluing half fighters together. If so, I’ve annihilated many an innocent seam.
