In the new FSM issue Jeff Herne’s article on seam filling has a technique of going over the filled seam with a silver majic marker to see any imperfections left in the seam. Has anybody tried this? Have you had any trouble painting over this with acrylics?
Just sand it or strip, or paint over it. It won’t show in most cases. Just use primer to be %100 sure.
I just read the article myself & found it informative. Montana Cowboy’s right.
I Think the main purose of the marker is it’s another form of primer-coating the work w/out wasting actual primer.
I’ve used this technique a few times using a silver Sharpie pen. If it’s a superglued seam I’m checking, I’ll remove it afterwards with q-tip dipped in mineral spirits. If it’s something like putty that the mineral spirits might attack I’ll usually just lightly sand off the silver.

Just make sure you dont use Testors Dull coat if you also use sharpie…
And if you’re using a sharpie, and you’re not going to remove it (sand it, etc., as above) be careful that you let it dry a few days prior to painting of any kind. Not sure if anyone here reads model aviation international (my fave, personally), but during a build there a guy tried to preshade panel lines using a marker, a sharpie I think. All looked great even after painting, until he put on a gloss coat. Because the sharpie marker hadn’t yet completely dried, certain tones in the marker bled through his paint, ruining it. So just be careful what marker you use. But I like the idea of spot checking seams in this manner. Have a good one - Jon
I’ve never used the technique, but would agree with others thst it would best be removed before further painting.
