Sealing glued parts from light leaks

How do you prevent light leaks when joining two halves of a model together? The edges have been scraped free of paint for the join.

I’ve had the best luck of using thin cement, such as Plastruct, Flex-i-file, Tenex, ect. I find that if I use these and make sure I have a fit where I actually get very small beads of styrene extruding from the seam, there is no light leak.

Are you worried about the light leak because you will be lighting the model, or is this a seam filling problem where you are worried about the finish?

I am trying to light the model but light gets through the glued seam.

Line the areas you want to be lightproofed with metal foil. Plain old kitchen foil wil do the job.

Just make sure you isolate properly and don’t short any bulbs/LEDs on the foil.

As long as there is no actual gap, aluminum or silver paint will shield from light. Those colors have awesome light-stopping ability even in thin coats. As mentioned, tinfoil does also, but as long as there are no gaps, paint may be easier.
