I’m building a Sdkfz 250/9 and the instruction don’t do a good job of describing the main interior colors. Is it the same as the exterior color? Greg.
I think, like all the 250 and 251 series, that the interior color must be the same as the exterior base color… As the 250/9 is a late war vehicle, it must be Panzer Dunkelgelb inside… Hope this helps.
Mass production of the SdKfz 250/9 (alte) began in July of 1942. So if the is an alte model 250/9, it could be painted in Panzer Grey with a Panzer Grey interior. The body change from alte to neu took place in October of 1943, but it was not until July 1944 that the full changeover had been completely introduced. The change from Panzer Grey to Dark Yellow base coats occured in Feb. of 1943, so neu model 250/9 should be in Dark Yellow with a Dark yellow interior.
Thanks, Smells like it will be …dunkelgeld. Greg.
Kykeon,
when you say body change from old to new, do you refer to the change of base color from Panzer Grau to Dunkel Gelb only ore where other changes involved?
Could there have been vehicles that where externally repainted but where the interior never changed from Panzergrau? I am asking because I kinda like the contrasts that this allowes for, just dont want to be totally off record when I try it…
Best Regards
Johan
There was a complete body style change. I can see how a panzer gray vehicle could be repainted dark yellow leaving the interior the original color but I don’t know what the policy was concerning repainting of interiors. Greg
As gjek stated, the change over from alte to neu model SdKfz 250 was a complete change in body style, simplifying the number of armor plates and angles, in order to speed-up production. This is not related to the change in base colors from Panzer Grey to Dark Yellow.
Alte model 250s were originally painted Panzer Grey, then when the change to Dark Yellow base coat occured on Feb 18th, 1943, the alte model changed to being painted Dark Yellow as a base coat. Dark Yellow paint was issued to field workshops, and as the older Panzer Grey vehicles came in for servicing, they were gradually repainted in Dark Yellow. The interiors of these vehicles were usually left in their original Panzer Grey color. Neu model 250s did not inter production until after the paint color change, so neu model 250s would not be found in Panzer Grey.
Thx m8, both my questions answered with added information!
