Finally have something to post here for your viewing pleasure/critiquing! Inspired by Tigerman’s Puma for the Italeri 2 GB, did this guy straight OOB. Did a bit of interior work (which made me feel good) but it’s really only visible if you shove your face right into the turret. For an old kit, it went together really well - and quickly. The whole build was a week from start to finish, minus a short break where I mulled over whether or not I was done - mostly wondering to what extent I wanted to take the weathering. I’m really happy how this one turned out, especially with no aftermarket detailing. Total cost - $10 + misc.supplies.

i cant believe you went from start to finish in a week.at this rate ;given time off for vacation you should have fifty models ready for anything.52 weeks in a year ,2 weeks vacation,yup thats fifty.looks like another winner to me.[tup][tup].wait a minute,is the box empty!ok ok
I kind of like it. I would have weathered it a bit more, insofar to at least deepen the wash, and brighten the drybrushing techniques. The weathering on the tire sidewalls is great, but not all of the tread would be covered with a brown layer like you have it. Overall a pretty nice build.
Congrats on getting her done in so timely a manner. I must say she is spiffy. I like the cammo, well done. Decals look great too. Might want to put some metallic grey or silver drybrush on the tools, unless my screen is bad.
I know what you mean about weathering. I tend to go more for the subtle myself so as to show off the detail.
Well built! usually I tend to go for weathering but this is such a nice job with the camo - anything more than light weathering would just hide the superb job.
Thanks for all the input guys! It seems like everyone has different approaches to the weathering thing - namely how far they want to go with it. Any of you that have been to the Liberation Of Western Europe GB know that I’ve been having a hard time deciding what route to take, whether (good pun) it be a more subtle bit of wear and tear or depicting an obviously combat-used vehicle. I decided to go with a newer vehicle that had yet to be subjected to a long winter in the field…just getting broken in, if you will.
Let’s see, addressing some comments…
The tools DO have a bit of metallic drybrush, which seem obvious when you’re looking down on the model but doesn’t seem to make it into the photos. That’s one of my biggest obstacles right now - my interior lighting is highly insufficient for quality pics, and the outdoor shots seem to have lost some detail (although I much prefer the lighting, as well as backdrop - want to head out into the woods to see if I can whip up some sort of action shots). Will compensate by adjusting the intensity of my weathering up a bit.
The tires were done with a combination of some highly thinned Tamiya Light Earth (or Dark Earth? Don’t remember what it’s called) sprayed into the tread and hubs, some of the same brownish wash I used on the hull, and some ground up pastels rubbed onto the sidewalls. I really dug the way they came out. Oh, and lots of sandpaper. Some pretty hefty seams when I glued those guys together.
Ahhh, I only wish I could crank out a kit per week. This one only had in the neighborhood of 100 parts or so, happened to fit together pretty well, and was completely OOB. I’m sad to say that most of those DML kits in my stash won’t be falling into place quite so quickly. [sigh]
wow! only a week, wish I could get some quality time to build. Beautiful job. I like the way the tires turned out. As for the weathering I like subtle as well. Top notch again.

Funny that I put this build up only 7 months ago, and I’m already looking at it with a different eye, wondering why I didn’t apply certain techniques that I learned in the interim. Heh.
I suppose I can’t go back and re-do every one of my builds…
I DID pick up the DML 234/1 and 234/4 to go along side this guy, though. [;)]
That’s the third Puma I’ve seen in the last week and I love 'em.Although I built one many moons ago,you guys are gonna force me to get another one.Nice job.
Nice looking Puma, Dupes. And I know what you mean about about fretting over the weathering. Where do I start, when do I stop, what to do where, etc… But I tend to go for the “less is best” approach myself.
And now that you’ve went ahead and gotten the DML 1 and 4, you have to get the 2 and 3. I have all four and they are excellent kits.
Actually, I have the Italeri sister kit to this one - the 234/3 - to complete the collection…but I suppose at some point I’ll have to ditch the old dogs and build the entire DML line. [;)]
Judging by what’s in the box for the 1 and 4, i’m sure I won’t be disappointed! [:D]
