Sd.Kfz. 165 Hummel *wip* Calling it done on to DIO build

Hey bud, The map is actually from verlinden, I was luck that on all the maps printed one was grided so it kinda looks like an artillery group would use it. Still working on the figgy painting skills, I have a lot further to go.

Bob

Did some putzing around and made a tarp from scratch>

Did some more work on Hans.

He will have a K98 resting between his arms and legs thats why there is a space there. Still working on the tracks and should have thos done by the weekend…I hope.

Bob

Mighty nice looking tarp Bob. The Hummel is really coming together.

hey Bob… Just tuned into this one. Sorry… my tube must have been on the fritz[:-^]

But now that I have seen it, it loks really great. I like the tarp.

Thanks Tiger and wing. Still hammering away at these tracks. more cleanup then aanything else. Have two more figures to get done as well. I should have some more pics today.

Bob

I know I know, Im slow. just added the exhaust and poles.

Im still putting tracks together [banghead]

More to come

Bob, the (slow) builder

Nice!

Someone must of got their Mig care package I see!

Well dont tell the wife but so far I got two MIG care packages Ed…LOL. The model desk has expanded a bit but sh has not said a thing yet…LOL.

Bob

Hey Bob,

I see that you’ve cracked open the pigments - your getting there. I might suggest that try a little blending of the brush stokes on the exhaust, either with a stiff dry brush, or a softer moistened brush.

Rick

Thanks Rick, Will do

Bob

Looking good![tup]

Nate

Bob, looks like you’re making full use of the weathering stuff! Only thing I would suggest would be to paint the pointed tips on the range poles as steel or similar metallic color. The arty guys here can tell you about how the poles were used but those pointy ends were designed to allow the poles to be stuck into the ground once the gun/vehcile was deployed for firing. [;)]

Ok Wbill, ill take care of it

OK so I am still wortking with these ind links. Ths has confirmed to me that I HATE THEM!!!. So until these are on the Hummel, there will be brief respit of photos taken.

[soapbox] [soapbox] [banghead]

Probdlem solved. Its called place an order over at RZM for workable tracks and spare the drinking problem I ma develope trying to get this indies set the right way.

Bob

Ok so while I wait for the MKs Ill get some other stuff done. Here are some shots of Fritz and Hanz.

Im going to dabble and get some more lite weathering done as well.

Bob

This is coming along nicely, Bob, I really like that tarp, can you toot on how you did it? It really looks the part.

The Hummel is looking good, and the figgies look very good, too. I am starting fig painting, too, those guys look good to me.

Bill

EDIT–Welcome to the he man indy link haters club.

I am a converted Fruil fan, whenever I can.

Bob,

Sorry to hear about your frustrations with the indys but looks like you’ve made use of the time to work on more of the details! I tend to use MKs myself on my builds and even though they take more time to assemble, the end result is worth it IMHO. Just be aware that the Hummel was on a stretched Pz IV chassis so the recommendation in the MK set in terms of the number of links required per side won’t be accurate. The set includes extras for use as spares or as accident replacements so you’ll still be able to get by with 1 set for the Hummel but won’t have as many spares at the end. Just means you’ll have to be a little more careful during assembly and likely use indys for the spare track runs on the hull. [;)]

Bill, the tarp was easy. I uses shoe box paper, its stiffer than facial tissue.

I cut the piece to size and crupled it up in m hand. I then laid it flad and brushed on some watered down white glue (Woodlandscenics Scenic cement).

I let it dry for a bit and while damp I draped it over the spot it will reside at. Once dry I brushed on some model master OD, I let that dry then dr brushed with a lighter color nd sealed wit lusterless flat.

Wbill, I am hoping there s enough tracks, everything I have read said I should be OK. I saved enough links form the kit so If I have to modify a couple of links Im ok with that.

Bob

I hate yer havin’ so much trouble with the tracks. I’ve never had a problem with 'em but I guess I’m just lucky. Don’t forget to kill the shine on those uniforms. You appear to be coming along nicely.
