Scribing panel lines

What do you guys use to fill your mistakes when scribing panel lines? I tried putty today, and it didn’t fill the scratches very well. If I make a BIG oops, then putty works just fine. I know I could use CA but that always leaves a big mound which requires sanding, and my odds of messing up the panel lines again… well nevermind about that :). I know I need practice, but does anyone have any tips for an easy way of filling the scratches. I’m half tempted to paint the model, because I’m not sure what will show through the paint.

thanks,

Scott

Scott- WHen I make boo-boos re-scribing, I use CA glue to fill them. I have found that some putty can shrink over time and leave a little mark, and the CA cures hard enough that I can rescribe right over it if I need to. HTH! [tup]

Scott:

Use the CA. If you apply it sparingly then you shouldn’t have much of a mound. If you do get a mound, then scrape it down to size using an X-Acto blade. I usually follow the scraping by wet sanding with 400 grit and then 800 grit paper to smooth both the CA and the plastic.

I use Mr. Surfacer 1000. It works pretty well.

FWIW… here’s how I do scribing. [:D]

I think I figured out my problem. The CA I’m using is more of a gel type. I forgot that they make CA which is much thinner like water, and I think that would solve my sanding problems. I will try this out and see how it works.

Be careful with thin CA. It will wick through panel lines like you wouldn’t believe. The medium thickness is best for filling in gaps. I’d recommend the Mr. Surfacer route. I’ve never used it myself, but everyone who’s used it seems to swear by it!
