Scribin' Fool...

Thanks guys!

Adam, no prob at all. Even though I miss the 'ole guy, I like telling the stories. But I realize that some may not wanna hear all that kinda stuff, hence the ‘apology’.

In case ya’ll didn’t notice, I really like to write and I usually prefer to express myself that way because I sometimes sound like a blithering idiot when I talk. Writing is one of my ‘things’…

Tony, thanks for the tip but my scribing technique is totally different from what most have come to know as the ‘accepted’ methods of scribing.

I don’t use any specialty scribing tool, but rather a three-sided jewelers file which grinds the plastic away instead of merely pushing it aside. It’s vastly superior to any scribing tool I’ve tried and, even though I’d only recommend it to the very ‘skilled’, brave or loony, you can actually cut lines freehand with it.

Matter of fact, I was over at a friends place the other night and was scribing that fuselage half using a different kind of tape than what I usually use for my guide and it wasn’t working too well. So I just went and did about ¾ of the scribing on that piece freehand.

That’s one major advantage to using the file; it’s a linear action along a length of one of the sharp edges of the file which does the ‘scribing’, and that makes this tool much more stable than a specialty scribing tool.

Hulk, thanks guy. I kinda like the sound of that ‘Kuroi Ohkami Monogatari’ or whatever you said… [;)]

Fade to Black…

MikeV, like Steve I didn’t say I had built them all, although I’ve built plenty. And, yes most of the more obscure manufacturers have been bought or handled at some time, at least if they were imported into the USA. I’ve been in the hobby since the early 60’s and have kept up-to-date on most kit releases. I have another advantage over most in that I was a silent partner when a very good freind of mine started his own Hobby Shop in the late 70’s & I helped him with start up financing. This gave me access to a lot of inside the industry knowledge. Today, I don’t hold any financial interest in the hobby business but another close friend now owns & operates two of the best hobby shops in the Detroit area. From that relationship I can open & look at any kit on the shelf that I care to & if I buy it’s at a very significant discount. They stock every kit that’s imported into the country, sometimes only a couple of each release, and I get first dibs on em. Kind of a hobby within a hobby, checking out all those pretty boxes [:)].

Regards, Rick
