Scratchbuilt Kubelwagen step-by-step

One or two people expressed an interest in an in-depth report on my scratchbuilt kubelwagen, so I spent the past several hours putting together a web page explaining the whole project. Anyone who’s interested can see it at

Wow, that project just blows me away! I have made kits that don’t look that nice!

Very nice! And I love that you took the time to document the whole process, not to mention the very fact you posted it online for all of us to see!

First rate job transferring your drawings to styrene. Great work with the Sculpey forms for your fenders and then heat shaping them. Getting good curved pieces is always tough. Thanks for sharing these ideas on your website [tup]

That is awesome… So many times, guys like me look at scratchbuilding as something like turning lead into gold… It is so nice to have the sorcerer show how the magic is done!!!

Thanks, it almost gives me the courage enough to strike out on my own direction… soon as I finish the already started projects that I have!!!

Thanks so much for sharing this with us!!!

Sweet, you can never get too much info on scratching. Very nice job, and thanks for the indepth how-to.

Thanks for the feedback…glad you all enhoyed it and I hope the how-to is of some use.

And it’s really not “lead into gold”…I’ve always seen scratchbuilding as this amazing thing that the other guy can do, but I finally just decided that I had to try it.

The top three things I learned on this project were:

*Cut carefully, and use a straightedge.
*Be prepared to putty.
*Sandpaper is your friend.

I hope to have some more articles up on my site within the next few weeks–next I have planned “Building on a Budget”, a sort of “Good results from cheap materials” kind of thing…

That’s great! It looks excellent. The step-by-step is a winner too.
