I’ve seen your “Dioramas” Russ, so nothing here surprises me! Your talents, and work tend to leave me speechless. Glad to see you over here in the armor page! I usually have to go go over to the diorama page to visit with you, and Dwight, and Kelly, and some others who I fail to mention at this moment. Thanks for showing your work here. Semper Fi, mike
Tiger 1 in 1/25th with scratchbuilt, kitbashed, barney built (and some kit parts) interior.
Awesome Steve. Just awesome. Semper Fi, mike
Way good work Sasd. Those are some of the most intense Shermies I’ve ever seen! Your son’s Centuriun is a definite eye catcher [tup][tup]
Here is my K5 railgun (“Leopold”). Entirely scratchbuilt except for bogies (micro-trains). 1/160 scale
Here is my Hasegawa Sherman with scratchbuilt engine. 1/72 scale
Sheet styrene is the best invention since sliced bread!!!

why guys that stuff is great, I would like to someday master the art of scratchbuilding, but i dont know what materials to build out of, where to get them, or how do do it. any tips?
My gosh thats awsome I wish I could build at that level!!! Anyway I have done a little scratch building on the current project ( a stowage basket and some up armouring ) on a humvee. I have no tips as of yet. I used what I could find in the house, and will post pics to let everyone have a go at critiquing them.
Holy cow…I thought I knew something about scratchbuilding…there’s a lot of absolutely fantastic work here!
I’m in awe, all of you!
The railgun blows my mind, as does…well, everything in the first post…heck, everything in the thread…
An oy, what’s “Barney built”?
Great scratchbuilding job everyone.
I know it’s not armor, but, here’s a scratchbuilt 1/92 USS Flasher conning tower I’m working on (I’m building the whole sub, but this is the most intense part). I sat it next to my 1/35 Hetzer to give an idea of the scale.
Since somebody asked - typical scratchbuilding materials:
Styrene sheets, tubing etc.,
brass rod of various diameters,
brass/copper wire,
miliput or similar,
found objects,
sculpey,
etc.
and if you intend to mold multiple resin parts - 2 part RTV and 2 part resin.
. . . (almost) all available from your LHS.
Some other scratchbuilding materials:
Dimension data
Reference drawings
Engineering drawings
Pictures
rulers, scale rulers or scale calculators
Sometimes if you can find really good drawings, you can print directly onto .010 or .020 styrene !!!
EXCELLENT POINT I-beam. Getting the data is often the hardest part!
OK, maybe not the hardest part.
Absolutely stunning stuff everyone, scratching something doesnt always grab me,specialy when it comes to a vehicle but conversion scratchbuilding now that
s a different story, taking existing kits and making something completely different, thats exciting! Thanks to everyone for posting their works of art, very special stuff indeed! Maybe we
ll get a scratchbuilding forum one day where we can swap plans and ideas and building tips.
