can anyone give me some tips about scratchbuilding an LCM …or some reference pictures or some dimensions thanks
Don’t have any ideas, other than plank on frame construction just like real LCMs. Why scratchbuild when there are LCM3s (50 foot version, the most common in WWII) available in about any scale you want?
Both Italeri and Trumpeter have them in 1/35 scale?
Italeri: http://www.greatmodels.com/cgi/display.cgi?item_num=it6436
Trumpeter: http://www.greatmodels.com/cgi/display.cgi?item_num=tp347
Verlinden does a resin 1/35 waterline version too, for about $110.

Fonderie Miniatures does one in 1/48 (it is a resin affair at about $120 though): http://www.greatmodels.com/cgi/display.cgi?item_num=fon6503
Trumpeter and Dragon have them in 1/72.

Trumpeter does a 1/144 version too. http://www.greatmodels.com/cgi/display.cgi?item_num=tp102
Pretty much any scale you could want it in. These could all easily be stretched to an LCM6 (56 foot version ) as well. Just add the appropriote length to the center of the well deck ad stretch it by 6 feet, just like on th eactual landing crafts.
Can’t argue with HeavyArty on this one. It would definitely be the way to go. I plan to eventually get one of the 1/35 ones, just for all the diorama possibilities.
Airfix even did one in 1/76 scale (also boxed in 00 and 1/72 scale at times). Won a few awards with mine.
You could always go to Accurate Armour! They have 1/35th resin kit of a LCT(4), which was a British designed ‘shallow draught’ tank landing craft. Only 185.5 feet long. It could hold up to 9 Sherman tanks or 6 Churchill tank or 300 tons of stores.
To look at go to www.accurate-armour.com
click on Products
click on Accurate Armour Products
click on Naval/Ship Models
click on British vessels
click on 1/35 LCT (4)
WARNING: this kit is not cheap! Almost 500 british pounds for export! But drool all you want! They do have a 1/76th LCT(4) for considerably less.
