Hi all, I am making a diorama of some Russian troops studing a map, but I cannot scratchbuild a good map[xx(]. I am about to pull my hair out, does anybody have any ideas? Anmy sugjestions would be great thank you!!![:)]

Verlinden makes map kits that are on paper. I have a couple figures from Tristar (not a well known company) and on the flaps they have maps that you can cut out if you happen to have any of them.
Welcome to the forum Aaron. How are you going about trying to make thiem? I have tried takeing some images from the net and shrinking them down to the appropritae size and printing them with some slight success before.

I just looked at greatmodels.com and they have some 1/35th scale maps. Go there search for 1/35 maps take a look at them and good luck[:D]

I tend to lean towards the method Chris spoke of.
There are lots of maps on the net that can be used. Reduce one to the size you need and then print it. It works very well in this scale.
I have found tiny maps in book catalogs, advertisements and history magazines, especially in the Book-of-the-month-club type adds. That’s where I find small pictures to put on the walls of my dioramas too.
Print it yourself and fold it up, then unfold it and give it to the troop.
If you dont have access to a printer… find a green/blue piece of paper… draw some brown, green, red, and black lines in random patterns, fold it, unfold it, and give it to to troop.
This picture was taken looking down on the diorama I build for the panther group build. You can see the map on the back of the jagdpanther, and one folded on the commanders lap (under his arm). The maps used were printed on my printer and folded/unfolded.

Method I use is to take actual military grid maps and shrink them down a few times on a B&W copier. Once I have them small enough, I then cut out a piece big enough and color it with colored pencils. Comes out looking pretty accurate.

It looks like there is plenty of advice for you here. I have tried the Verlinden maps and they are ok. But its cheaper to make them your self. Good luck.

go to http://www.sportys.com and request a catalog. They sell aviation sectionals and subscriptions thereto. The pictures in the catalog can be used for scale maps and charts. Works great for aircraft models too.
I bought a Verlinden set of maps but the card used is a little thick so I color photocopied it on to A4 sheets of paper and used them instead. You can copy them lots of times and in different scales to have loads for other dioramas. Copying them is OK as long as they are for your personal use only .
I took some colored pens, squiggled lines and dots, then folded up the paper to make a map for my tank crewman:

I looked on the net and found a 1943 US army map on southern Italy. I then copied the image and scale it down to an appropriate size and printed it on my colour printer.
It was then folded into the right size to fit into a Wehrmacht map case and then opened back up, ready to be glued into place on the passenger front seat of my old mould Tamiya 1:35 Kubelwagen. See the pic below.

I got an easy solution that will give you some extra figures for later, Tamiya makes a German soldiers at field breifing and in the kit it contains a sheet of paper with maps for the officer and nco. it has like 6 different maps i think, not sure and im not sure but one or 2 might be in color. and when your done, u got another kit to fool around with. gl on the maps
ps the kit is a very good one, not one of those cheap badly cast ones.
