Scorn's latest creation (21 picks in all)

Ok here are some more picks.

Scorn just finished His HC M1A1, but was too tired to post the picks. I had to goback and resize all of them or else you would be seeing 1600x1200 res picks. So I was nice enough to drop them down to 800x600 for all of you.

well her we go

well guys tell him what you think.

That’s pretty good!!
The paint job on the accessories is outstanding.
I think the chipped-paint effect is a little overdone in some areas.
Overall, it looks very realistically battle-weary!

Very nice pictures. Thanks for sharing.

They’re gorgeous.

Nice work.

I like the way the green paint underneath is starting to show through in places.

looks good
Nice work.

Really a great job. Thanks

Very nice. How did you go about getting the chipped and faded look of the paint though?

well lizard the paint fading through was an accident! but you are the only one I am going to tell that secret too ok? lol

As on the T-72 I thought i would give the salt-technique a shot. (Ref. http://www.finescale.com/fsm/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=6184 )
However, on the T-72 I used regular Morton table salt. On this one I thought I would try Popcorn salt to see if I could get finer paint flecks. WRONG!

As you can see from the link above, water is a key elemet of this technique. Water almost completely dissolves popcorn salt. Almost. I gave the model a coat of MM US Army/Marines Sand (2136) first and then brushed on Tamiya Acrylic NATO Green in the places that I wanted the paint flecks. I didn’t count on the almost complete dissolving of the salt though. It still did the job, just not as well. I then gave the model one coat of the MM Sand again and in areas where the salt had melted I got the fade through of the green. I actually didn’t like it at first, but I really didn’t want to build this model in the first place so I just let it go for the timebeing. After weathering though, it really started to look pretty good. I agree with you Zok, that in some areas it is a little over done, however not by too much. I was a tanker in the US Army for 6 years on M1s including in Desert Storm. This is exactly what happened to many, many paint jobs that got rushed through the paint job on the units that were deployed over rapidly. I was with C Co., 1st Bn 4th Cav, 1st Inf Div (MECH) and we certainly got rushed over there. I can look through so old photo albums and maybe find some of my pics from that time to show you. Although I think my ex-wife has them… :frowning:

The kit is a Hobbycraft knock-off of a Trumpeter models M1A1. As with the T-72, a pretty fun build after-the-fact for under $20 US.

Looks awesome, im kinda afraid to show mine off it doesent come close to dwights adams or yours so i think anyway…cant figure out how to put up some photos of can you help a brother out?

Hey that’s a great looking M1. Nice job.
