Sci-Fi Tank what to start with (suggestions)

Above is a link to a gallery using a 3D modelling program. One of the images is a Tank. It looks kind of cool, and I imagine that if built, it would use parts from an aircraft (kit bashing).

I am just curious what someone would start off with to build something like it.

That looks to me like a 100% scratch-build. However, if you wanted to something similar with a standard tank kit to start, any kit would work. I’d probably use something big and bulky like a cheap KV-1 or KV-2 kit as a base, but it’s up to you.

Enjoy your modeling…

wow, now that is a diferent looking tank! good luck and show us pic if you decide to build it.

Try something in 35th scale and pick some thing unusual to start with .
What about the merkava hull with say the sgt york turret and a big gatling gun on the front. Or say the MLRS hull with a lazer cannon built from scratch. Check this site out and ask him some questions. http://www.stormtrooper55.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk
Look at other kit parts and imagine if you could turn it into something else.

You might want to look at some of the tanks from Games Workshop. They are in 28mm (about 1/64th) and have a kind of WWI look to them. Little expensive but should be able to find them in the local hobby, gamers, or comics store.

Or you could use the world around as your supplie source you would be surprised what you can find out there especially for sci fi because imagination has no bounds.Heres an example

The main body is slightly modified vacuum cleaner tube the wings are acrylic sheet and the rest is the parts bin. Now I know this isnt a tank but Im using it as an example as to what can be accomplished with Items around the house or workplace etc. You should go to the sci fi forum and get some Ideas from woody, boybuddho and some of the others cause these guys are great at this and can offer you a lot of Ideas also.

To look at something like that tank with an eye to scratchbuilding it can be a bit overwhelming. Break it down into simple geometric shapes that you can build out of sheet styrene. Make every assembly a mini model. The shape of the tank looks very do able. I say go for it. [;)]

the mgs could come from various armor kits, using .50 cals., .30’s etc. etc.etc.

It looks like you have an isometric view of the tank and can use it to draw up a side , top and front profile to start with. From there, you can scrounge for parts and scratchbuild what you cant find. And taking each section as a minimodel will break down your build into many smaller ones.

Best wishes on this and post pics of your progress!

Very interesting looking machine. As per the above comment(s), I’d say that this is a complete scratchbuild. You may be able to use parts from other kits in terms of guns and wheels, but as for the body, I do not know what you could kitbash this out of.
You know, we should really have a what-if GB for vehicles like these. It’d definitely be very interesting to see what people come up with.
