Posted a shot of this in another section of the forum and thought I’d post more images here…

I recently pulled this out of the hangar to make some long overdue corrections. This is Hasegawa’s 48th Stang built SOB and in the colors and markings of a P-51 that was operated by 2.Staffel Versuchsverband Oberbefehlshaber der Luftwaffe, otherwise known as Beute-Zirkus Rosarious. (commonly referred to as ‘Rosarious’ Flying Circus’, although it translates somewhat differently)

The only mods I made were some dings and dents here and there, mainly on the spinner. The markings are paint except for the hakenkreuze.

Oh, and I wish I could get some decent closeups of the cockpit with my active photo rig because, to me, that’s the best part of this model. I was really happy with how the pit turned out, especially the data plates…

The effect of the base, unfortunately, is lost on the cyber crowd. Ya’ll can see the big hakenkreuz, no doubt. But what isn’t clearly evident is the star which I put over it. The base is pretty much dead-flat with only a bit of a sheen. But the star was painted in a semi-gloss clear and is only visible at certain angles and under certain lighting conditions. The whole idea of the design was to indicate the ‘current ownership’ while hinting at the aircraft’s origins…

Anyhoo, I mentioned some corrections. They’re fairly minor; I have to put yellow tips on the backs of the prop blades and change the color of the inner edge on some of the canopy framing. There’s some other really minor stuff too, just can’t think of it at the moment…

Something not so minor… 2.Staffel VOL flew captured fighters in mock combat against Luftwaffe fighters. The captured aircraft were kept in almost ‘original’ condition in order to provide as realistic an adversary as possible, and this included being fully armed. So I have to install the gun barrels as well.

Also, I wish I could find a clearer photo of this aircraft which shows if it actually carried codes or not because it looks kinda bare without 'em. There’ve been a few books released on the subject of captured aircraft operated by the Luftwaffe recently and I guess I’ll have to pick 'em up to see what’s what…

Like that 'Stang, BlackWolf ! I’ve been thinking about seeing if anyone would be interested in a “Captured Aircraft Group Build.” Would lead to a lot of interesting stuff, I think.

Excellent work [tup][tup]. The Stang looks good even in Luftwaffe markings. Just glad the Luftwaffe only had a few captured Stangs.

Nice, Steve-O! I was expecting old black and white photos… Imagine my shock when i saw a model! This must just be the 4th model of yours that i’ve seen! Hehehe…

Shrikes, yeah I have built a model or three. But as Eagle alluded to, I haven’t done much recently.

Speaking of… Eagle, you may have seen this POS too many times but, until now, it has never graced the table at this big cyber-model-club meeting. And at least I HAVE past glory to recapture!! So nyeeeaahh!!!

Anyhoo, Pix, your idea for a GB sounds good. I’ve actually been able to drag a new project out because of another GB, so maybe this’ll get me building again…

The stang looks pretty awesome from here. Its interesting to see a P-51 in a different colour scheme.

Great looking Mustang Steve-O… I like seeing birds in captured colors. Great weathering as well… I like the dent in the spinner.

That is one fine looking Pony Steve!! I always thought it interesting that these birds were repainted by the LW… the one Jug with what look like an American soldier on the nose art was also quite interesting.

I also like the well thought out base…you gave it a real artistic flair adding the clear star-- very cool and original.

The two models are very nice but what about the two Labatt’s? They’re not bad either.

Absolutely superb work, Blackwolf! It’s really refreshing to see something other than an NMF 'Stang, let alone a LuftStang!

You’re right about the base…can’t see the star at all on my ancient monitor…but what I can see looks excellent.
