Hello,I am planning on building a WWll German train yard diorama using my
Trumpeter 1/35 K5 as the center piece,the question is-how close is HO scale to 1/35?Can HO scale be used ?having a hard time locating 1/35 scale models for
the yard ie engines,cranes and such, seems I could save some time if the HO scale would work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
HO train scale is 1/87 and 1" = 7’ 3" . In 1/35 scale 1" = 2’ 11". Thats a big difference . There are 1/35 scale kits of German locomotives and rail cars out there . By the way No. 1 scale trains are 1/32 and in that scale 1" = 2’ 8" which is very close to 1/35 and should work. Hope this helps.

You’re probably better off going somewhere in the middle;scalewise; if you plan to do a diorama. 1/35 will be huge for a scale train yard, at least 6 to 10 square feet.
HO is kinda small if you’re planning on using figures in the scene with any detail. I’d go with 1/72 at least, and 1/48 at most.
The other problem you’re gonna run into is finding other item in 1/35 scale. 1/32 which is close, but even bigger, would be a little easier.
In any case plan to do a lot of “scratch” stuff.

Trumpeter has announced the BR52, a German (what else?) wartime locomotive in 1/35th scale. CMK does this in resin, too.
If you have to use your HO equipments, you can always get the hasegawa kits in 1/72. They should fit in an okay way.
