I build:
- 1/72 WWII aircraft
- 1/48 WWII aircraft
- 1/72 Modern jet aircraft
- and some 1/48 jet aircraft
- no 1/32, altought I really want a 1/32 Trumpeter Su-27 !
I prefer 1/72: cheaper then 1/48, and still good to put detail in…
Cheers,
Jürgen

Guess I dont have much of a preference on scales.
I like 1/32 for WWI and some WWII aircraft
1/48 WWI, WWII, Modern
1/72 same as above
1/144 Modern
Most of the time I will stick with 1/48 like the big kits to work on and 1/72 I have always like to work on small kits and make them look good.
Hi:
If you’ve got room enough, no doubt 1/48 is much funnier. It takes much longer, hours looking for very small pieces fallen under tables and chairs, an angry wife who hates every day more those plastic invaders that completely filled each and every acceptable corner in your house and begin to flood everywhere (It is funny how wives or girlfriends at first delightly accept 1/48s; but when they rapidly begin to grow in number they pass from a laughing mood to a worried one, then to a concerned position and then to a frank hate against this damned hobby that takes their men away for hours at night, taking his mood to rage when a piece is lost or doesn’t fit or to a houseband depression if the project definitively fails. Some girls even crush our most endeared model and then they blame the cat, the dog or children. No. It’s she! Others say that we have a Freudian disorder and have replaced sex by models).
Finally, if you have adequate and very large mobiliary (protected against dust, cats, dogs and wives) and a meditation practicing wife, 1/48 is my best choice. I recommend WWII classic fighters in this scale to begin since they use to be smaller. there is a great variety of models in this scale (try Hasegawa and Tamiya: they look gorgeous when finished).
Greetings [:D]

I haven’t built much in the way of aircraft, but I do have a P-3 Orion and a Neptune waiting in the wings to be built; they’re both 1/72. I did build a 1/48 scale MiG-21; it’s sitting on a nearby shelf as I type this.
When I go to a model contest, I love looking at the 1/48 and 1/32 planes the best. Their large size and potential for superdetailing is quite impressive, but in this little tiny apartment, I sure wouldn’t want a collection of them. Indeed, I’ve even wondered if someone ever made an Orion in 1/144 scale; I would almost rather build that and save the space!
i wonder if age has anything to do with it
the younger (30 and under) may try 1/144 1/288 and of course 1/72
at their age vision is good
and us old people go with mostly 1/48 with a few of the bigger planes in 1/72
because of vision concerns mostly
I use to do mostly 1/48, and I would love to do all 1/35 and 1/32. I especially like the 1/35 helos. But unfortunately, I don’t have time for all that detail anymore. So now I’ve switched to 1/72. That scale seems to be less popular in the US compared to other countries, but I like it. Dave -DPD Productions - Featuring the NEW ‘Military Aircraft’ Photo CD - http://eje.railfan.net/dpdp/
I would love to get into 1/32 scale, but I can’t afford most of them. I mainly stick with 1/48, exept for the big ones, like C-130s and such 1/72…
I work in 1/72 only, partly because it’s cheap, but mostly because I want to have a large collection without taking up my entire apartment.
I’m 22, and sometimes go cross-eyed while putting small pieces together. I’'ve heard a lot of the older guys say they like the bigger scales for the sake of their eyes, and I can uderstand that. Perhaps some day when I have a house and a modeling room, I’ll switch to 1/32.
