Scale Canvas, Tents and Vinyl

Looking for ideas for the best materal to make either tents or vehicle canvas/vinyl from. Example, I am planning my next model, the 1/35 M577 with its canvas extended as an artillery fire direction center. Need to find the right material for the back extension. Any ideas??

Thanks

You could try a styrene frame covered with tisue paper with white glue added to it. When it dries it should be rather stiff allowing for painting.

[#ditto] Make a wire frame, I even used a toothpick frame once, than cut your size of tissue paper, lay it on and paint it with 50/50 diluted wood glue. After it dries, paint more on, and then repeat until its as solid as you want. Then just paint it. Hope this helps!

The elmers and tissue paper works great, but add a drop or two of diswashing (liquid type) to the mixture. This helps to keep the glue from "clumping and will give the teture a more even feel.

Mate, use the search facility on the forum here. Just type in what you’re looking for, & you’ll find a STACK of stuff. I use it all the time. Invaluable.

Thanks for all the ideas!!

There is an excellent article on armorama that tells how to make your own tarps. It was included in a recent issue of Model Military International as well. You should be able to locate it with a simple online search.
