What color were the SBD-3s of VB-8 painted during the battle of midway? I’m building the AM kit, and I’ve marked it as an aircraft from this squadron, but I don’t know if I was right to paint it Model Master “Navy Blue Gray”.
The SBD’s, and all other Navy combat a/c were blue-gray over light gray at this time. The three tone camo didn’t come into effect until 1943.
The Model Master Navy Blue Grey is OK for an off the shelf color, but I find it a tad too blue. I usually darken it with about 20% Nuetral Grey, but that’s just a personal preference.

I agree I thought the color was maybe a little to blue especially if you are going to build a weather bird, I left mine alone…
