Visibly the only difference between the SBD-3 and SBD-4 was the propeller type used- no spinner on the -4 hub and wider chord blades. The other differences were internal, such as electrical system. The A-24 was a land based version used by the AAF and had a pneumatic tail wheel instead of solid rubber, and the tail hook was usually removed. The A-24 was a land based SBD-3, the A-24A akin to a SBD-4, and A-24B akin to a SBD-5.
