Say 'Hello' to my lettle friend

This is the Hasegawa 1/48 ‘Yellow Nose’ Mustang kit with Aeromaster decals for 375th FS/361st FG P-51D S/N 472 940 flown by Lt. Harry Chapman. Final score was one aerial victory plus two ground kills. This was a very pleasent build. Overall finish is Alclad 2 Duraluminum with contrasting panels of Aluminum and Magnesium. Other than the decals this is built OOB over about two weeks of evenings.

Very nice Matt! You have a gift, thats for sure!!!

I love the NMF, vibrant yellow and choice of nose art…you really came out with a winner here, Swanny. From your experience, how does the Hasegawa “D” differ from the Tamiya offering? I’ve built the latter, and the former is tempting, especially when they are on sale!

Great looking Mustang.

[tup][tup]thats a real good build, espeically only 2 weeks, love the angel herself.oooooooohhhh!! how much and were did you find that kit at i would like to do something like that

Looks really good, Matt.

One question. OOB? Is the detail in the landing gear bay molded in or did you punch it up a little?

Very nice looking Mustang. That yellow really jumps out at you. Nice office too.

Very pretty. Nice NMF.

That is a gorgeous plane. Congrats on the beautiful finish, Swanny!

Thanks guys. Comparing the Hasegawa kit to the Tamiya kit, the Tamiya has dropped flaps which is a huge plus and has better sidewall detail in the cockpit however the Hasegawa kit has better radiator details within the fuselage and better landing bay details. All that detail in the gear bays is stock kit stuff – nothing added at all. The Tamiya kit offers a multi-piece canopy that actually slides while the Hasegawa kit canopy is only a two-piece affair that is glued in place. Both kits are of about the same difficulty level which is to say very easy to build.

She’s a beauty, Matt, [}:)] …oh and nice work on the 'Stang, too! [:-^] Seriously, that is one beautiful job!

Very nice, Matt! [tup] I hope the Tamiya kit I’m currently working on turns out half as good.

Great job ! [tup]

WHAT?
ANOTHER P-51? LOL…you gotta love it…what a beautiful aircraft. Proof of the statement that “form follows function”…
Nice job on the finish, Matt - she looks great.
Tell me - what did you use as the prime coat? Dark or light?
I’ve found that the Alclad finish is much brighter over gloss white than over gloss black…what color primer did you use?
I’m interested, cuz I’m about to start my Hasegawa D, with all the resin fixins…dropped flaps and all…
I’ve got both the Hasegawa and the Tamiya D…they’re both great…just can’t get over the rivets on the Tamiya wings…nasty.
Cheers brother!

That came out killer! Great details in the wheel wells too!

Outstanding once again Matt

Yes primer color does influence the tone of the final product. For this one I used Krylon Gloss Black but if you look at my XP-40Q I used Mr. Surfacer 1200 for that one.Another choice would be automotive primer red oxide.

Beautiful job on the build, Matt! The NMF looks great.

Looks marvelous Matt. As old as it seems to be, “another mustang” I just lov’em and you’ve done another great job on this one. How about we start a forum separate for mustangs? I could go there and gawk all I wanted without having to filter through the “other” stuff. [swg]

Another fine build Swanny the NNF looks great.

Very nice work Swanny! [tup] I have a blue nose Tamiya mustang in my stash, I’d love to get a NMF like that, it looks stunning.

Thanks for sharing this one with us.
