here’s Hassy’s B5N2 Attack Bomber i just finished for the Pacific group Build.
i’ve been putting off doing the panel wash for ages and felt a bit stale, and i must admit to be being rather uninspired with how she turned out.
i’m not sure i’d make the kit again: too much effort, too little reward.
the mottle was a bit tedious (lots of concentration with airbrush), and somehow less striking than luftwaffe schemes i’ve done.
i used a few photo etched parts from eduard, and also their canopy mask.
the scheme is that of Warrant Officer sato Haruo, who was part of the 1st attack wave on Pearl Harbour from the carrier Soryu.
although hassy says the underside should be silver/natural metal, i went with my aftermarket decals from Eagle Strike #48035, which said that it should be IJN grey.
less striking, but possibly more realistic? who knows?
i was rather pleased with the bomb, which i masked with blu-tac; up till now i’ve always shied away from multi coloured prop spinners etc, so may be this will be the start of something new and good!
apologies for the cruddy pics, but it’s the best i can do with my little Canon.
Nice job, Nick !
The semi-gloss finish looks great ! I’m glad you didn’t chip the [censored] out of the paint, like so many Japanese aircraft are incorrectly portrayed. That’s a very good Nakajima cockpit color you used. Is it White Ensign or the kit’s suggested mix?
Nice work…you say this leaves you flat? Can’t wait to see one that has you pumped…How were the Eduard masks? I tried a few years ago some canopy masks, that left me flat, ended up doing them by hand…
