I may be getting Airfix’s 1/144 Saturn V kit for $10. Is it worth it? Is it a good kit? Anybody know anything about it? TIA.

My Monogram kit was a piece of sh&*! Of course, I wasn’t much better at building it either. Did just about everything wrong with it. It is about to hit the trash can.
Couldn’t tell you on your kit though. But for 10 bucks what do you got to lose?

Has anyone heard if Revel is going to be re-issuing the 1:96 scale Saturn V.
$10 is a great price as they usually go for about $25.
Real Space Models makes some kits and decals that will help with the detail. Both the Airfix and Revell kits are a bit simple. Haven’t heard about a re-issue of the 1/96 Revell.

Does anyone know if the Airfix is the Monogram’s mold? I have Monogram’s Saturn Rocket but I missed placed the fins years ago moving from one place to another to another.
I have the 1/96th scale one. A monster of a kit. The box is friggin huge.

The Monogram and Airfix Saturn V kits are different kits. From an accuracy standpoint, the Airfix is the preferable kit, and $10 is not a bad price at all. The Airfix kit has much better engine detail; the depiction of the J-2s on the Monogram kit’s second stage would be a fairly funny joke were they not serious. (If you’ve seen it, you know what I’m talking about.)
Whichever kit you go with, though, you need to work on the Apollo spacecraft, basically everything from the LM adaptor on up. Both kits feature Service Modules that are proportionally too tall and aren’t Block II versions. The BPCs have no detail to speak of.
But for $10, you’ll have dough left for the aftermarket stuff…
If you ain’t going to buy it let me know where to find it! I’ve got the 1/96 and a 1/200 scale.

I’ve built both I feel the Monograms was far superior to the Airfix’s,but getting the kit for $10.00 is a great buy I bought mine back in 1979 for $25.00, but then I found the Monograms re-release was cheaper at 12.50 I got it too and built them,Monograms kit’s LE tower & cone fit like a glove and the CM ( Crew Module ) fit the diameter of the SM ( Service Module ) and the CSM to 3rd stage adapter is a nice touch too you could display the LEM with the Bird assembled ( the "Banana Panels are separate & hinged ),

Yes, $10 is a bargain for that kit. Kalmbach has a good book with an article specifically on the Airfix 1/144 Saturn 5. With not too much effort you can build a great replica. Yes, Realspace has nice “accurizing” kits; kind of pricy but worth it to build a good replica, and save a lot of work. Also, you can get great roll pattern decals for this kit at www.tangopapdecals.com. These include nice wrap-arounds for the Service Module, plus all the other graphics and roll patterns for the S5. Check it out…great quality, not too expensive either. Good luck![8)]
Like blackwolf, $10 could build an entire history. I built the Airfix years ago, and thought it was a hoot! Had a great time. Seems the fit was pretty good. Haven’t done the Monogram kit, so I can’t compare them. For $10, go for it!
