Satins

Hi,

I’m modelling a couple of muscle cars that call for black and white satin colors. I can’t find it in any of my shops. Any ideas on how to mix something that will give me the desired effect?

Also, I’m new to Auto modeling, any quick tips on finishing and getting a nice gloss finish. I’ve heard some people use sand paper, but I guess I don’t really understand this technique. Should I sand, what should I sand, and should it be wet or dry? Also I’ve noticed lots of small scratches in my primer job, now I’m guessing this is WHY you want to sand, but I’m a newbie with cars. I’ve heard references to floor polish, and Iv’e used it in other applications, but will this smooth out the finish?

Thanks.

For a satin finish, get some Future floor polish and some Tamiya XF-21 Flat Base. Mix them about 6 parts Future to 1 part Flat Base and try it on some scrap. If it’s too flat use more Future. If it’s too glossy use more Flat Base.

The car guys have some methods for producing beautiful glossy finishes, but since I build airplanes that are always flat I have no idea what they are. I know there are some polishes specifically for models.
